Like every other society based on hierarchy, Malfeas has evolved a bureaucracy. Impasia, also called the Necessary Servants, but known more colloquially as imps, fulfill a number of duties within the convoluted bureaus, divisions, administrations and offices of the Demon City. Being excellent bookkeepers and researchers, imps tend to be the clerks, librarians, scribes and accountants of the [[race::demon]] realm. These same skills also make them useful to certain sorcerers, who tend to summon imps to assist with laboratory work.
Many souls have been lost in fascination with the patterns produced by the writhing storm of jet-black ink and feathers that forms Gruidtsuru. It knows something, maybe everything, but for most of Creation its compelling, swirling blackness hold only madness and a concealed shrieking vortex leading to Malfeas. Its children are the only path it offers to its knowledge, cast out into Creation like birds thrown from their nest, and never welcome home without suitable offerings.

Imps are the progeny of [[serves::Gumela, the Jeweled Auditor]], but they can be found in wide service throughout the infernal realm, often traded like commodities. When being summoned, imps are usually tempted with the profile of the Functionary or the Vizier, though some have been subjugated so thoroughly that they may respond the the Slave as well.
Gruidtsuru is the Wisdom soul of [[Erembour, That Which Calls to the Shadows]].

When materializing, impasia may choose to take one of two forms. Either they appear as a tall, thin, somewhat disheveled, scholarly looking human or as a two foot tall bat-winged humanoid covered with green or grey scales. Once chosen, this form cannot be changed until the imp dematerializes and materializes again. Two different summoning rituals exist for summoning imps, which force the imp to appear in one form or the other. In immaterial form, they always appear in their bat-winged form.

Imps tend to be accommodating and polite, though a bit snobbish. They make excellent assistants when summoned, but will work to betray their summoner if possible, particularly if left alone.

While not much for physical combat, imps possess a wide array of mental tricks and illusions. They will infect a targets dreams if given a chance, and will always cloud the mind of a target rather than attack her outright.

Gruidtsuru is the Wisdom soul of Erembour, That Which Calls to the Shadows.
