- First Edition is the original game created and published by FASA Corporation in 1993.
- Second Edition was published by Living Room Games in 2001.
- Classic Edition was published by RedBrick Limited in 2005.
- Third Edition was published by RedBrick LLC and Mongoose Publishing in 2009.
- Revised Edition was published by FASA Games, Inc. in 2012.
- Fourth Edition was published by FASA Games, Inc. in 2016, funded by Kickstarter
Alternate systems for Earthdawn
- Earthdawn: The Age of Legend uses a slimmed down rule set, a customized version of FU: The Freeform, Universal RPG. This game has an official license.
- An official Savage Worlds version. Not heavily supported.
- An official Pathfinder version. Not heavily supported.
- Earthdawn Genesys, a fan-made port to the Genesys system
- Wardens of Barsaive uses the Minimal d6 system to support Earthdawn in four pages.
- Fourth World is a “drift” of Dungeon World for playing in the Earthdawn setting.
