Flaxen Catacomb ("Flax") is the chief adviser to the Tri-Kahn of Chiaroscuro. He is also a Dawn caste solar, which the Tri-Kahn and a few members of his court know. What even they do not know is that Flax has been putting his considerable bureaucratic talents to work to such an extent that he controls nearly all of the important political, economic and military machinery of the city.
Appearance
Born in the far reaches of the north, Flax has pale skin, blond hair and blue eyes. He carries himself in a reserved, contemplative but easy-going fashion that masks his physical threat. While he is a naturally persuasive and an expert at managing people, he is not the most sociable of people, substituting a firm resolve for charm. While not particularly attractive, he exudes an aura of confidence that others respond to.
While he tries to hide is caste mark and anima banner, when fully flared, he appears surrounded by a bright white tiger with violet eyes.
Tactics
Flax's fighting style relies on creating weapon and armor from essence, and persistent parries.
Preparation
If given time to fully prepare for combat, Flax will cast the following charms in order:
Charm | Charm Cost | Cumulative Cost | Effect |
---|---|---|---|
Glorious Solar Plate | 10 motes, 1 willpower | 10m 1w | Increases soak to 13B/11L |
Glorious Solar Saber | 5 motes, 1 willpower | 15m 2w | Summons energy sword |
Fivefold Bulwark Stance | 5 motes, 1 willpower | 20m 3w | Reflexively parry at full pool for rest of scene |
Increasing Strength Exercise (optional) | 9 motes | 29m 3w | Strength to 5 |
When defending
If in real combat, Flex will try to get Glorious Solar Plate up as soon as possible. Until Flax has Fivefold Bulwark Stance active, he will declare multiple actions defensively, to parry. Once Fivefold Bulwark Stance is up, he will parry all the time reflexively with is full pool.
Any time he his hit, he will use Essence-Gathering Temper if he is able.
When attacking
Once he is fully powered up and has his sword, Flax will usually split his pool into multiple attacks without using charms so that he can use Essence-Gathering Temper to replenish his essence pools. Once done, he will use hungry tiger when it makes sense.
If engaging more than one opponent, Flax will use his Feeding the Tiger combo, using the reflexives as needed.
When attacking, his hearthstone bracers add two to his damage.
Other considerations
In most cases, Flax will avoid large essence displays, particularly in public.
One of his hearthstones makes him immune to poison and alcohol.
When speaking on topics that matter to him emotionally, another hearthstone gives him +2 dice for Charisma- or Manipulation-based rolls involving those topics.
